DD cries when she BMs. help?

For the past 2 days, whenever DD poos, she cries in pain. She's not constipated, nothing is hard (mostly soft solid or mushy), and no signs of a diaper rash.

She's 19mo and is completely happy, normal, playing child otherwise. In the past 2 days, this has happened 4 times. She pushes, goes pale, cries, and is clingy, for about 5 minutes. The first time it happened she was in so much pain she threw up (she never ever vomits, 5x in her whole life maybe), and i insisted we go to the ER. As soon as i got everything packed up and ready to head out, she was with DH jumping in the living room having a good ol time, so we didn't go.

I'm taking her to the dr today, but I don't know if anyone else has been through this?

  • Maybe she is having a little cramping/gas with the poop. Gas pains can be pretty intense and they would probably be relieved with the BM.

I would definitely ask the doctor.

  • One of my twins does this at least a few times a week.  She will seem like she is pushing pretty hard and then once she poops she will let out a very loud scream and cry for a few minutes while wanting to be held, but is then fine a few minutes later

  • Glad you are going to the doctor. This happened with one of my nephews a few years ago (when he was just under 2) and it turned out he had a little hernia that was causing him pain when he would push for bowel movements. So it's always good
  • I'd call and ask the doc to be on the safe side.

My son did this too for several weeks (although he never vomited).  I'd kneel in front and rub his hands and tell him it was ok.  It started b/c of one hard poo and escalated to where he'
