I live in Texas and it's pretty normal that the car is 125+ degrees when I get into it after work starting in April/May. In March it was 112 when I got in at 4:30. Ridiculous. I drive a 4Runner and the only vents in the back seat are in the center console between the two front seats. The front seat vents, even when pointed to the back, don't help at all. The backseat stays really hot. Last year it didn't matter so much because I was a SAHM for awhile and DS was in the infant seat, so when he started daycare it just stayed with him. We also were only in the car about 15 minutes. This summer he will be in the car 45 - 90 minutes in the afternoons, depending on the day, due to SD's dance classes.
Currently DS is rear facing. He has a Britax Marathon and even in the winter is sweaty. I'm worried that with his seat staying in the car heating up all day combined with no a/c vents reaching him that he will get way too overheated. DH thinks we should just flip his carseat around and put him in the middle seat. DS doesn't mind RF and is FF in DH's car (rides in it maybe 2 times per week).
Options:
1) Keep him RF, figure out some way to cool him off (no idea how to do this, rolling down windows isn't an option due to heat and driving on the highway, daycare won't let us leave his large seat there due to space issues)
2) FF in the same seat (behind driver)
3) FF in center seat
Help!
Re: I know, another FF question
I agree with the others. Between a carseat cooler, running the AC for a bit before putting DS in the car, aiming the backseat vents at the ceiling (or using the tube trick that crystal mentioned) and making sure your DS is not over dressed you should b
