Labial adhesion?

At two months, we found out dd had labial adhesions. We treated with hormone cream to open it up, but since then I haven't treated it. I looked today and it has fused again. I know these clear up on their own usually...but when? Should I have it looked at again? She has never had a uti...I guess for peace of mind I will talk to the pedi. Has anyone dealt with this in their toddler or preschooler?

Re: Labial adhesion?

  • It has been an ongoing issue for DD2. DD1 had no adhesions.

We've done maybe 3-4 rounds of the steroid cream over the past couple of years. It opens, is fine for a few months, then slowly starts closing up again.

  • Online I have read that being in diapers can cause rubbing and may cause the adhesions. Maybe once we get going on potty training it will be easier to keep it open. Thanks for your replies...it eases my mind a little.

  • If you don't mind me asking, at what age did you start the steroid cream?

My DD has the same issue she is 16 months and pedi says that it will correct itself. Just wondering if I should ask him about it.

  • I don't recall exactly when we started -- maybe around 18 months? 15 months?

In some cases they might resolve themselves, but if it's very extensive adhesion, they can interfere with urination and cause UTIs.

  • We discovered this in our daughter at 2 months old as well. They prescribed the cream but it was only a temporary fix. She is 6 years old now and still has them. They do not hurt her and we just keep our fingers crossed that she doesn't get a UTI. We do n
