Hi ladies,
I also posted this is the SAHM board but thought it would be helpful to get opinions of other moms also, also not quite sure if that was the proper board to post on.
My husband and I are self employed and have owned our business for 3 years. When we started the business we both were working, DH quit his job 1 year after the business started and I then quit my job 2 years after the business was started. I had carried the benefits so we now pay our own health insurance and have for a year. It was a BIG decision for me to quite my job! We were nervous for financial reasons. That being said we have been fine this year and have been able to save money along with add to our retirement funds on a monthly basis.
So now we are making another BIG decision, having a child. I do not know how much a child costs but I am sure its a big expense. I would "almost" be a stay at home mom since we are done with our out of home work by 10am and are home for the rest of the day after that. I would have to find a baby sitter for the early morning OR not go back to helping with that part of the business and just do the at home work.
I will be honest and say we make slightly over 100 a year, have NO credit card debt but some student loans, 1 car payment and a SMALL mortgage. We also have 20 in a savings. My husband is EXTREMELY nervous to have a child for financial reasons but I think its because neither of us know exactly what to expect.
We currently travel quite a bit (we have taken 3 cruises in 3 years plus other small trips) and I KNOW that would have to change since the money could be better spent with a child.
I can understand his hesitation since we are SELF employed and anything can happen at any time, but I think thats true for any job. I also feel that if I needed I could get a part time job once DH gets home from work, to bring in extra money if needed.
So I guess I am looking for unbiased advice from people who don't know me from a stranger on the street ![]()
TIA
