Prenatals

I just went to the pharmacy to pick up the folic acid and prenatal prescription my doctor called in and because its a named brand my insurance says it will cost $50 a month for prenatal's.  I said wow I wasn't expecting that, I will just go to Walmart and pick some up.  The pharmacist was kind of rude and said well you wont get everything you need there these having everything you need.

Bottom line, I don't mind paying 50 a month if that is the best thing to do.  What does everything here take?  I put a call in to my doctor to see what she says.

  • If the vitamins are called "Prenatals" then they should already have folic acid in them. My doctor told me you want to get at least 800mcg of folic acid.

I personally prefer the gummy pre-natals, as they are gentle on the stomach. And they

  • If they are prenatals they should have what you need; just make sure that there is folic acid! Also, the gummy vitamins do not generally contain iron, so you may need to take an iron supplement if you opt for those. I used the gummy ones until they grosse

  • I have a store brand where I paid $12 and got 360 pills. (buy one get one free) I showed them to the doctor and she said they were fine but she suggested I take some more calcium.

  • Ok great! the pharmacist made me feel like if I didn't buy the $50 dollar prenatals I was not going to give the baby what it needed.  I'm sure she didn't mean it that way.

I've taken VitaFusion gummy prenatals, Similac prenatals with DHA, and now I'm taking NatureMade prenatals with DHA. Just make sure they have Folic Acid, and some iron and DHA wouldn't hurt. Best to double check with your dr, but unless you have a certain
  • The nurse practitioner called and said she understood $50 a month was a lot and she suggested that I take a plant based prenatal such as source of life.

Guess I am going to the vitamin store to find this after work.

  • My OB called in a prescription for prenatals for me and I filled them the whole way through my first pregnancy; it was 180 for 3 months worth!  Then, the whole time I breastfed I switched to the naturemade OTC prenatals (bought at Costco) and had no
  • My RE cleared me to continue taking the gummy ones. They're very similar to anything you'll find in a prescription I believe. They don't have iron, but my levels are fine.
  • Anything to get a buck huh?! ha  I was told to go to a drugstore and pick up a prenatal that has DHA and folic acid in it.  I just finished my first bottles of the Centrum(I thin kthats the brand?) and they were $26.00.  I now compared thos
