Separation Anxiety and Socialization Question

A has been going through a bit of rough time lately when I leave her at the gym daycare.  She used to just sob for a minute after I left then play as normal.  Over the past few weeks she has had a miserable time; sobbing not wanting to play with other kids (just wanting to hang with the adults) --basically being super high maintenance. I've read 18 months is usually the peak for this behavior.  Is anyone else experiencing it?

I'm pretty sure they are annoyed with her and I might be asked not to bring her if it persists (Selfishly, I would die as it is my only "me" time).  What should I do?  Keep bringing her and hope it gets better, take a break or other?  She doesn't get much other interaction and I'm worried about socialization...but I'm not sure why at this age.

I would also like to add that there are some incredibly loud and hyper children there.  She doesn't like to be around them when they are screaming & running around...maybe this is contributing?

  • I think you should continue to bring her.  I'm also going through this at daycare with DS.  He's been going to daycare three days a week since he was 5 months and then spends the other two days with my MIL.  He loves going to MIL (he cri

  • When I worked at a daycare, I was the teacher in the 12 to 18 month room and this happened all of the time. The best thing to do was to say your "goodbye, I will be back soon" comments and then go. If a parent drug it out, the kid would drag out the sobbi

  • We are not going through this, but is there perhaps one daycare staff member who could take a special interest in your LO? There's a girl at our gym who just loves Wes, and when I arrive with him, she runs over and all but snatches him from me. He knows h

  • I would keep taking her and see if it gets better. Can you go at a different time so maybe there'd be less loud kids?

  • We are right there with you! My DD goes to daycare 2 days a week and she is exhibiting that behavior there. She cries, doesn't want to play with the other kids. She is also teething pretty badly right now (cutting molars and eye teeth at the same time.
