Another AW: Dog Post

I can hardly contain my excitement for getting our puppy on Saturday!! But I also feel anxiety over it. Until we have the puppy in our car and we're headed home I won't feel better. Here's what our experience with a different breeder was...

I never posted previously about our "failed match" with a breeder prior to finding this current breeder/puppy. We were going to be getting our puppy from a different breeder when she decided that DS wasn't ready for a puppy and told us that he's "too controlling" despite knowing he has autism. She repeatedly told us that we need to take control of him. We always thought he did very well with the dogs during our visits. Granted he was a bit overstimulated each time in a small small space with 10 dogs. We had been visiting the previous puppies since they were 10 days old and up until about a week prior to when we were going to get our puppy. That's when she sprung on us that she didn't feel comfortable letting us adopt a puppy because she didn't feel we would give it a good home. WTF? We were offended. We felt terrible and I felt a sense of urgency to find a different puppy since DS knew we were getting one, etc...

Well, things happen for a reason, definitely. The breeder we're now getting our pup from trains therapy dogs!! A lot of her dogs also go on to be therapy/service dogs. We told her ahead of time that DS has autism. She was soooo accommodating, patient and gave us as much time as we wanted with the pups. She felt like we needed to find the right puppy for DS since she knows our plans to train it to be a therapy/companion for DS.

We're now thinking of naming our puppy Mila (Mee-lah). DS can say it and it sounds cute when he says "ooo, ooo Mila." He says "ooo-ooo" for woof, woof aka puppy. lol

  • Yea, we thought that the previous breeder was reputable and she supposedly works with adults with autism. ::eye roll:: So glad that we were able to get our money back and find this new breeder! DS seems to be very good with animals and really, really

  • Congrats on your newest family member!!!!   I agree, a reputable great breeder will have a good match for you and your family.  I am a firm believer of adopting, but if a good breeder is used--that's great too.  Therapy dogs an
