Babies: 6 - 9 Months

For those of you with not-tiny babies...

My son weighed 7 12 when he was born. That was pretty big for what we were expecting (and a lot bigger than the doctor thought). He had chubby cheeks from the day he was born, and is a bigger baby (he falls in the 50th percentile every time, so he's not actually bigger than most babies; it just looks like it).

Lately, I have been getting comments from people that he is BIG. They don't say it to be mean, but it still hurts my feelings. I mean, I get that babies are "supposed" to be cute and chubby, but you don't go up to a 12 year old's mom and tell her that her child is "sooo chubby wubby" do you? I didn't think so.

I don't really say anything to the people who say things except for "Yeah, he was bigger than we all expected" or something like that. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else (who has a "bigger" baby) is tired of hearing how chubby or big or fat your baby is.

  • Eh, babies are supposed to be fat. People are always going to comment on something, you just have to learn to let it go.

  • Wow, I wonder what those people would say about my kiddo who has been in the 90th to 95th percentile.  I don't mind.  My kid is proportionate height and weight and looks like a healthy baby.  I am proud of how big he is and that my body has

  • I get this too...my DD is in the 25th percentile... She is just now starting to fit into 3-6 clothes!  People are dumb!

  • I get tired of hearing it as well. I have perfect strangers coming up to me in stores and telling me how big my baby is. Honestly, though, she is only slightly above average in weight and is still wearing 3-6 months clothes. She's just a solid baby. I

  • My DS weighed 9 lb 2 oz when he was born and I've had tons of that from the beginning. It kinda makes me mad, but I know he is healthy and adorable, so I try to ignore it. Just tell them he is totally healthy.
  • Ethan was 6 lbs 13 oz when he was born and always in the 25th percentile for height and weight until he was 4 months old. We went from hearing "he's so tiny" (he really was, he wore NB clothes until he was 2 months old) to now hearing, "he's so big"! (

  • It doesn't bother me.  DS is 95th percentile for height and 85th percentile for weight.  At his 4m appt, he was pretty much the size of a 6m old.  When people say he's "big," I just take that as a compliment.

  • My LO gets the same comments. I thought maybe he was big until I went to his 6mo appt and found he was in the 50th percentile. If someone says it now, I will just say actually he is pretty average size for his age. Hopefully that will shut them up.

  • This bugs me too and I do have a tiny baby.  In the 1%, just a smidge above 11 pounds at 5 months.  People always comment on how big she looks, and I have to stare at them.  Really people?  Compared to her peers, she is tiny.&n

  • Thanks for all of your replies! I think it's hard for me because DH's cousin has a son who is 2 days older than DS, and he is really small, and DH's mom and sister compare my son and the cousin's son a lot. It really sucks because I love my baby (and the

  • Really? My baby is in the 95th percentile, so we get those comments a lot, but they don't bother me. I feel a little proud, actually. When he was born, he was 6 lbs 4 oz. We really struggled with BFing initially, but with a lot of hard work, he started
