Trying to decide what to do with naps this summer

Before we moved into our house last summer we lived in a condo and the pool opened at 9 am so we would go to the pool early and then walk home eat lunch and the kids would nap.

We moved mid summer so we didn't join the swim club last year.  We joined this year, but it opens at noon...It's still in walking distance, which is awesome.  However, the kids usually go down for their naps around 12-12:30.  So I'm struggling with how to handle naps this summer.  Part of me thinks we should go right when it opens and then come home at 2 and put them down for their naps, but then their likely to nap until 4:30 or 5, which will probably push their bed time later.  They currently go to sleep at 8.  DD starts preschool in the fall and they have a 7:45 start time so I would probably have to re-adjust her sleep time before school starts.

If we go after their nap then we'll be pushing it with dinner time.

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but my kids need their sleep because otherwise they get cranky and I want them to enjoy the summer not spend it whiny and cranky all day.  I also want to maximize their pool fun in the beginning of the summer before #3 comes because I don't know how much we'll be at the pool after that.

TIA!

  • My son naps 1:30ish-4:30 and goes to bed fine around 8-8:30.  I would try and push back nap a little and see how it goes.

  • I was sick of nap jail. We dropped DS2's nap around 2.5 years old.  I would drop your older child's nap if she can handle it and adjust your younger ones nap to accommodate.

  • What about nap a bit earlier, like 1130, then pool after?

  • do your children sleep in the stroller?  maybe you could get your LO to fall asleep on the way and sleep a bit while you're there and playing with the older one in the baby pool.  Your older one may fall asleep on the way home, but I would think

  • I would go for regular naptime, use it as dinner prep time and go to the pool once they wake up.  If you have a lot left to do for dinner, it's a short day at the pool.  If you can throw dinner in the crockpot, you can stay until the last minute

  • Oh how I cannot wait until these naps are done! But until then, I have to accomodate. I've always been very strict about their naps, and they won't nap in the car/stroller.

I was actually thinking about the same thing as you this week. Both my ki
