My c section is set for May 6th. I am starting to get so anxious! I think a big part of it has to do with antisipation, all of this waiting and the time is finally near. I was just curious to hear other peoples experiences with their twin/multiple c sections. If it was horrible -- maybe don't give EVERY detail . Thank you!
Re: Twin C Section - what to expect?
Sorry About formatting, My Phone Has A Glitch.
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
The c/s itself is a piece of cake. AND, don't worry about the spinal. You won't feel a thing. I was very surprised at how anxious I was about it, because in the end it was no big deal, honestly.
I also didn't have any issues peeing following the removal of the catheter like the PP.
I will say that recovery was pretty tough for me. I only got out of bed to pee until the evening of the 3rd day when I finally felt up to changing diapers. DH was fabulous and did everything with the babies, except nursing of course. He passed the babes to me whenever they were hungry or I wanted to snuggle them.
You will definitely want to take it easy for the first 4-6 weeks post-op. Make sure you have prepped a lot of freezer meals. It will make your life so much easier. Also, when people come over don't be afraid to 'charge admission'. By that, I mean they can get down and dirty. Do your dishes, sweep floors, vacuum, whatever. If they are visiting it means you are not sleeping and believe me you will be exhausted so they can certainly help a mama out!
Oh, and if there is a LC that can give you tips re: nursing I would strongly encourage you to request them. The nurses will be OK, but LCs are much more experienced.
GL with everything.
My twin c/s was easy IMO. I had a vaginal birth with DS1, a planned c/s with with my twins due to breech presentation, and I'm hoping for a VBAC this time around. My c/s recovery wasn't any easier/harder than my first vaginal birth, just different. My twins were born on a Thursday, I was home on Monday, and I felt pretty well that I had to remind myself to slow down (I was IMO zipping up and down the stairs). The worst part of my c/s was that it hurt for the first week (maybe more, can't remember thank goodness) to sneeze/cough/laugh hard/blow my nose/etc. I would have no problem having a RCS, but I do think there are more risks with it, our bodies are meant to deliver vaginally, vaginal birth is better for baby, I don't want to come home to 3 wild and big kids while recovering from surgery (after my twins, DS1 kept accidentally kicking my incision when I'd change him), and there's a limit as to how many safe c/s you can have (not that I plan to be pg 100 times, but God willing I'd love to be a surrogate at least 1-2 more times, and what if 10 years down the road DH and I decide to have more, I don't want to essentially burn through all of my c/s chances).
ETA: I was also up and walking about 12 hours after they were born. DH didn't stay in the hospital with me (I wanted him home with DS1) and I couldn't push the babies (too much ab muscle strength needed) so I asked my nurse for help. Everyone that says get up and moving as quick as you can means it. The longer I laid/sat, the stiffer I became when I wanted to get up. You don't have to walk a ton, but get up every hour or two and just get moving a little, I would usually do a lap or two around the maternity area.

GSx2 for T&B - EDD 6/21/2015 - They're having a GIRL!
The C-section itself wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My contractions were one on top of another, so I got some Fentanyl while I was in triage. It was like I was drunk, so it made everything infinitely easier. The spinal wasn't bad at all. My anesthesiologist talked me through everything before and during the delivery. I had two OBs and each baby had their own NICU team. Other than shivering a lot and my nose itching, the procedure itself was fine.
The recovery was OK as long as I stayed on top of my meds. My kids were in the NICU, so I was up and changing diapers and caring for them by day 2. The pain and discomfort were manageable.
I highly recommend buying some stool softeners if you aren't already taking them. Oh, and some moist flushable wipes (like Cottonelle). That first poop was RIDICULOUS. I was in the NICU bathroom, grabbing onto the handrail and grunting. Just. Awful.
I also recommend wearing maternity yoga pants after you're discharged. The belly jiggling was really uncomfortable. I wasn't a fan of the Belly Bandit and I just needed a little support.
