Nursing and formula question

Hello MoMs!

I am a FTM and am of course contemplating the BF vs formula situation. I would like to pump and then bottle feed breast milk and formula interchangeably.  Is this a common thing to do? I do not have any desire to tandem nurse and would rather pump than nurse in general.

Am I crazy? Is this possible? Can I switch between breast milk and formula? Assuming they have no issues with either.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Nursing and formula question

  • Sure! Your body will adjust to whatever you decide to do. Although I'm happy to have nursed my boys until 6 months, I kind of wish I had done alternating nursing and formula from the beginning! We're having a tough time weaning right now.

    Hi-

I do this.  I have 10 month old twins.  While I sort of wish I nursed directly, I realized after they were born that I didn't have it in me to tandem nurse and so I stuck to pumping.  It is more work, and it isn't as effecient

  • My twins switched between breastmilk and formula interchangeably without any issues.  I woudl not mix breastmilk in the formula though because breastmilk has a longer shelf life than formula.
