Sippy Cup Conundrum Continued...

So thanks to everyone who helped me out on my previous thread (https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/73239019.aspx)

I tried a few different things out and it seems like we finally have her switched over to the sippy cup offically!!  She ended up really taking to the Munchkin soft spot sippies.  (As mentioned in my previous post she LOVES the Tommee Tippee straw cups for her water...but she wouldn't take milk out of it...plus I want her to have two different cups for water and milk so that she knows the difference.)

However, now the issue is that she takes FOREVER to drink her full serving of liquid (I am still mixing....slowly getting rid of the formula.) She takes almost 20 minutes to drink 6 oz of milk/formula.  The nipple is deinitely one where she to suck really hard to get the milk out...but I can;t get her to take any other cups...and she wont even take the milk out of the straw cup when I gave that a go.  Before we switched she was on medium flow bottle nipples.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to change this? Or do I jsut let it ride and give her some more time to get used to it?  And when she does get used to it..should I eventually switch the milk to a harder sippy nipple, a straw cup--or can I just go right to the open cup trainer thing?

I know its early days for me but any help would be appreciated!! All of my mommy friends stilll have their kids drinking from bottles....and the one that has older kids....didnt transition until their child was much older and could basically ask for a "big" cup. Thanks!

  • Go with what works for you. I don't remember when DS stopped drinking a whole sippy/bottle in one sitting. Maybe once she's used to that cup you can try a cup that doesn't take as long for her to drink from.

You can start practicing with real cup

  • DD2 stopped taking a full serving of milk in the cup around this age. We switched to sippy at around 8 months (she has a big sister whos 3 and she started stealing her cups), but she LOVES solids! At this age all she wanted was solid food and not much to

  • Sometimes my son will drink 6oz in ten minutes, but it usually takes him several hours. He still manages to get in the ounces he needs per day. Try leaving it out while she runs around playing. DS will often come over and sip it then keep playing.
