Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

tantrum advice needed

My DS has always been a mama's boy and has always loved his snuggles. Fine with me, for sure, because we'd always had a balance of some independent time as well. But lately he has been throwing huge, long tantrums if I can't pick him up for some reason (eg: when I need to take something out of the oven) or if I try to give him a hug or hold his hand instead. I'm not really sure what to do during these "hold me" tantrums. Normally, I put him down and just stay nearby until he has finished his tantrum and then we give hugs and move on. But now if I'm anywhere near him it just makes it worse. Thoughts?

  • If it is safe to do so, walk away.  If it is clear that he wants your attention, and he is throwing a tantrum to get it, then walking away will do the exact opposite.  Even if he follows you, don't look at him.  You don't want to give him a
