Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Sleep training while still swaddled?!

Anyone done sleep training will do a Ferberlike approach with baby still swaddled? Have a 6 month old who i hold until he is asleep, for naps and nighttime. He is waking up at night more than he needs to likes to nurse to sleep and back to sleep. We did Ferber training with my daughter, but she was 9 months at the time, out of swaddle I don't want to wait that long this time. My son isn't rolling over, so I haven't had a 'good reason' to give up the swaddle yet. Considering giving up the swaddle and sleep training at the same time......ugh but secretly hoping that letting my guy sleep on his tummy will fix everything!

  • If they are swaddled, how will they self soothe?

  • I don't think it is a good idea. They won't be able to get their paci/suck their thumb or just move around enough to get into comfy sleeping position. I would ditch the swaddle and do Ferber at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone!

  • Thanks for the helpful comments. My first child fell asleep on her own while being swaddled, we ended up sleep training for nighttime wakings. This one isn't soothed by it in the same way. Will be biting the bullet on things soon.
