Baby Names

Which is better?

DH and I originally loved the name Luna - then after reading peoples' thoughts, he really started to second guess it, so now it's scratched from our list for future LOs.  Right now, our front runners are:

Girls:

Isla Marilyn

Estelle (nn Stella) Edie

Boys:

Luca Richard

Mason Richard

All MN's are family names.  Do you like any name better than the rest?  Do you think Estelle is too "old lady"?  Also, DH has a step-cousin with a daughter named Stella...we never see them (not even holidays) - is it too close to use?  Also, which would make the best B/G sibset?

Thanks!

ETA: We have a three-syllable Italian last name.  Sounds like Ten-ALL-ya, if that makes a difference with any of the name.

Re: Which is better?

  • I dont think you would have any issue using the name Estelle/Stella.

I like Isla Marilyn & Luca Richard best, and also think they make the nicest sisbset

And while Luna isn't a name I would personally use, I wouldn't suggest taking it o

  • I really like both of the girl names but I'll give it to Estelle due to the easier pronunciation.

I am sooo sooo over Mason it's like nails on a chalkboard to me now.  Luca wins by a mile.

  • Love Isla and Luca. I do find Estelle to old lady ish, but that's just me, Stalla is picking up steam as are many 'old fashioned' names, so I don't think she would be out of place. Mason is just way to popular and holds no appeal to me.

  • Estelle Marilyn seems to flow much better than the ultra-matchy Estelle Edie. I also don't think there is any real issue with using Estelle/Stella even though you have a rather distant relative with the name. I say if they aren't at Christmas then it i

  • To me Luna= Isla.  They are both pretty names that are experiencing a surge in popularity right now.  I think in 15 years they will both sound dated.

Love Estelle-- I would use it despite the connection to the step cousin.  I don't

  • I love Estelle, and don't think it sounds old lady at all. I don't think the step-cousin makes a difference at all in what name you choose.

I like Estella and Luca best, although your other two choices are lovely too.

  • I like Estelle/Stella but I don't like it paired with Edie.  Isla Marilyn is not my style. If the step-cousin is someone far removed from you that you never see or interact with then don't let that deter you from using it.

    Neither of the boy

  • I adore Estelle.

  • I love the name Isla but DH said No to it.  Of your boy names I like Luca the best.  Mson is just too popular these days.

Estelle sounds like a 90 year old lady
