Diaper Rash

What would you say is the best treatment for diaper rash? 

DD has got a diaper rash from having diarrhea which came as a side effect from an ear infection medicine the doctor gave us. The doctor said it was a side effect and now DD still has 3 more days of taking the medicine. I really hope the diaper rash clears up and she doesn't have diarrhea for the next 3 days. How long would you wait to try and treat the rash before letting the doctor know?
