Babies: 3 - 6 Months

infant ibuprofen

So yesterday I noticed that my LO's first tooth cut through! I knew he would get teeth soon, but had no idea one would be ready to cut through already. Crazy! Anyway, I am a first time Mom. I went to WalMart today to get tylenol, but I was wayyy underslept, LO was fussy, and it seemed like all the boxes said 6 months and I couldn't remember what was circled as OK on the sheet my doc gave us at his 2 month check up. Surprise, surprise, I bought the wrong thing. I bought infant ibuprofen. The dosage says ask a dr before 6 months of age. However, the first dosage for that age starts at 12lbs. My LO is 14 weeks and at least 15 lbs. Would it be OK to give him the ibuprofen until I can get tylenol tomorrow? We live far from town. I don't want him to suffer, but am sooooo scared about hurting him with meds. I just want to make sure it is safe.

  • I don't think their bodies can metabolize it before 6 months.

  • No ibuprofen before 6 months.

  • It's given before 6 months on a case by case basis by drs. If your baby had a fever that tylenol wasn't bringing down, they may recommend ibuprofen but I wouldn't give it without a dr saying so. Tylenol is safer.

  • Plus, I would say, if that first tooth is already in, it's probably not giving him much trouble. L's first 2 came in and he didn't bat an eye. I would wait for tylenol.
