Baby Showers

Is it just me?

Isn't it tacky to ask people to send money to the host for a large joint gift for the MTB in lieu of a gift? I went to a baby shower where the invite asked me to send 30 dollars to the host. I thought it was weird to be asked for money and also would have spent double the amount if it were just me buying the gift. What are your thoughts?

  • IMO it is extremely tacky.  What if the guest did not plan to spend that much or planned to give something "homemade".  It is never proper to ask/tell people how to spend their own money.&n

  • It was kind of a well to do crowd, so the hostess probably figured that was nothing to people, but whenever I think about it I cringe and feel really uncomfortable. It was just so strange.

    It doesn't really matter, it's tacky no matter what. But, I am curious to see what she felt she wanted people to buy.
