Refusing Pedialyte

So to piggy back off of my throw up post, DS got sick again this morning. On call dr said to give small amounts of pedialyte, like one to two tsp, every ten to fifteen minutes for an hour an slowly up the amount and spread out the doses. DH went out and bought three kinds and DS refuses all of them. We tried using a syringe which he's used to from taking his Prevacid daily, we tried his sippy cup, we tried mixing with water. My friend who works as a nurse at a children's hospital said they mix in a little bit of koolaid powder with the pedialyte and that usually gets kids to take it. So DH will go back out and get some of that. Any other tricks??? Poor baby.

Re: Refusing Pedialyte

  • Pedialyte tastes gross.  None of my kids will drink it.  Just give your child gatorade that is a bit watered down.  It is the same as pedialyte and tastes much better.

  • I got that same advice the other day...and pretty much ignored it.  To get that amount in my child would have meant a screaming, spitting pedialyte at me baby every 5-10 minutes.  I let her go a little long and in the end she was so thirsty she

  • If they are dehydrated plain water makes it worse. You can add a bit of salt and sugar to water and give it to LO (it should taste like a teardrop).
