Progesterone support post IVF - when did you stop?

Hi

Another newbie question. We are in a kind of weird situation because we live in Seattle, had IVF in Ohio (b/c the success rates were similar but the shared-risk plan was = to cost of 1 IVF cycle in Seattle), and have not yet seen OB or MFM. My partner has 4 doses left of Endometrin 100 mg, and the RE in Ohio said she can just finish those and quit taking the progesterone support, because with twins she "should be producing plenty." I'm wondering if the progesterone level is something that should be checked prior to stopping Endometrin? Or does every RE just wean you off of it w/o checking progesterone levels?

A few relevant details on the labs/tests we've had so far:

Retrieval - 3/4/13

Transfer - 3/7/13 (two embryos)

Beta drawn 3/21/13=389

First transvag u/s (@ local RE's office) 4/3/13- two sacs, Baby A hr=105, Baby B hr=115

Upcoming appts:

Next transvag u/s 4/19/13 @ local RE's office

First OB appt (w/ high risk clinic) 5/1/13

I'm a class A worrier, but I also feel a bit unsure b/c we're being managed long-distance until we get into OB care next month...

Would appreciate hearing what your experiences were.

Thanks again

  • I'm a worrier like you, and I would ask for refills until I have the OB appointment.  It can't do any harm continuing to use it.  I did IVF too, am pregnant with twins and I think I kept taking progesterone until 10 weeks or so.  At that po

  • I just stopped mine at 10 weeks and 5 days. I was on 1cc of PIO shots from the beginning, and we started weening down to .5cc at 8 weeks.

My RE had said at our u/s that we could have stopped at 8 weeks, and that some stop at 5 weeks, but she has

  • From what I've seen from posts here on the bump, REs have different policies about how long their IVF patients continue with Progesterone and Estrogen support after a positive pregnancy test.  I've seen people "graduate" from their RE's care and e

  • I stopped at 13 weeks. However, I bled from a SCH at 7 weeks so my RE kept me on it longer than most.

  • I was on PIO and vaginal Endometrin.  Initially PIO daily and Endo 2x/day.  I think I stopped PIO around 10 weeks (cut back to EOD at some point but I don't remember when).  Stayed on Endo 1x/day until about 14w due to my own anxiety. &nbsp

  • Wow, it's so different for everyone, huh? Well, since I'm not the one who has to deal with the medication, I hate to be pushy to extend it when the doctor said it's okay to quit. I guess I have to trust that he has our best interests in mind. It's hard

  • With my fresh cycle that brought us DS I stopped PIO at 11.5 weeks. With the FET cycle that resulted in this twin pregnancy I stopped PIO at 10.5 weeks. I never had my progesterone tested before stopping the PIO. I just stopped when my RE told me to. GL!

  • My RE had me stop at 8 weeks. I had my first u/s at 7 weeks, which is when they confirmed the pregnancy and told us we had twins. They told me to stop the PIO at 8 weeks. They told me the placenta would take over at that point and there was no more need f

I'm 11 weeks today and still taking it. I have my last appointment with the RE on Tuesday. Obviously I want to do what's best for the babies, but I'm really looking forward to getting off that stuff.

  • My doc told me I could come off at 8weeks, I wanted to stay on so I did until 10 weeks then got scared and wanted to stay on until 12weeks, but some how I think I was irritating my cervix and caused a lot of blood and lot of money spent on emergency room

    Good luck!
