Retirement Party Ideas

I have been asked by my department to plan a small retirement get together for our boss.  We have a relatively small department, and we are all engineerings (we are all a bunch of self proclaimed nerds).  Most of the department has young kids (under 3), one has teenages.

We are toying with the idea of making the retirement a family party. The party will likely be held the last part of May, and we are in Michigan so the weather is a little crazy right now.

So my question is if it's a family event, what types of activity(ies) would you recommend?

Would you be annoyed to go to your spouses boss' retirement party if it was a family thing?  FWIW, I think DH would acutally like my department though he has never really met them.

Sorry this got so long!

  • Well, I am a nerdy engineer as well :)...what about Dave & Busters or bowling...just in case the weather is tricky. Otherwise, a picnic pavillion would be fun. You could take volleyball, bocce ball, corn hole, and other yard game activities for peo

  • My husband and I are planning his retirement party in May.  We are having a huge party at our house, hopefully inside and out.  Since we and most of our guests have little kids, we are hiring a local magician/comedian who caters to any audien

  • I might be alone here but is there some reason you think your boss would like a family party for his/her retirement party? If this person is of retirement age, are you inviting their children and grandchildren? I guess I am just confused, if the party
