Oral Antibiotics?

I know some of your LO's have been prescribed oral antibiotics for various things. Did they have diarrhea as a side effect of the medication?

We saw a pedi earlier this week because DS has pink eye. Doc prescribed with drop and an oral antibiotic... now the poor kiddo also has super loose stools. I read that it can be a side effect -- was your LO bothered by it?

I think I just feel terrible for DS dealing not only with the pink eye (plus a growth spurt & teething...) and now poop issues.

Yes, his were very loose on meds

Yes, it's a pretty common side effect. I get terrible stomach cramping and diarrhea anytime I'm on an antibiotic. The only thing you can really do is eat yogurt to put that good bacteria back in your body.

I unfortunately have lots of experience with oral antibiotics, and here's what has worked for me:

I buy the YoBaby yogurt smoothies and mix the antibiotic right in, jack swigs it down and he gets the yogurt. You can also get a probiotic called Fl

I didn't think to give him yogurt/good bacteria... such a good idea!

DS's little bum is starting to get irritated... and we've been slathering on the desitin... so hopefully yogurt helps a little bit.

Yes. D gets loose and smelly stools with amoxycillan. It doesn't last the whole time hehe is on the meds tho.

We have been lucky and haven't had any issue with antibiotics. We give him a yogurt and a dose of probiotic every day when he takes an antibiotic.
