Is night weaning the only solution here?

Hi Ladies,

I am having serious sleep issues with my DD so I hope you can help me out.  DD is almost 13 months and we cosleep for part of the night.  I feel like the older she gets, the worse her sleep gets.  She is very very attached to the boob and wants to sleep with my nipple in her mouth all night long.  I put her down initially in her crib around 7.  Between 10-11 at night we bring her into bed with us.  From the time she goes down in her crib to the time she comes in bed with us she will wake up between 2-4 times.  Most of the time DH can rock her back to sleep and put her back in her crib but sometimes she won't calm down until I nurse  her.  Once she ends up in bed with us then she will nurse all night long.  If she wakes up and my boob isn't in her mouth she will cry and freak out and be looking around for my breasts.  Basically she is using me as a pacifier.  This has always been a problem since she was really little but it has gotten progressively worse.  DH suggested night weaning but I'm not sure if I'm ready to cut her off completely at night.  I don't mind nursing her at night but I can't keep doing this where she is nursing all night long.  Or maybe I just need to stop bringing her into our bed which will also be hard.

  • When you can't live with how things are, that's when you change it. You could night wean completely, you could night wean partially (say, refuse to nurse more than twice a night, or before 2 am), or you could try to get her to stay in her crib.

  • I nightweaned my son at 26 months using the Jay Gordon method and it worked wonderfully. Prior to that, even at 26 months, he still woke up every 1 to 3 hours all night to nurse. Within a few weeks of nightweaning he started sleeping through the night, an

  • Can DH sleep with her alone if he can't get her back in her crib? Sleep at 1215 months sucked royally with both my kids. It's hard, and this probably sounds harsh, but she may have to have a few nights if cutting her off of the boob...not night weaning pe
