Easton Noah is here...question about a tear

MOBILE: Easton Noah is here...question about a tear

I gave birth to a gorgeous healthy baby boy on sat april 6th at 3:11 am after being induced. My contractions were 3-5 min apart for 48 hours until i reached 3 cm then got the epidural. After the epi (8 hrs) i pushed him out in 40 min. I love him so very much!!!! Here is my question though, I got a second degree tear on my perineum, i am very swollen and in alot of pain still, i hurts so bad to sit down. I was wondering if there is any second time moms out there that had or has this tear and what did you do to speed up the healing process? I have been putting ice on it and washing it with the shower head gently. Any input on how to deal with this would be great!

  • I had a third degree tear. Things that helped heal:

-soak in the tub for 10 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day

-calendula cream (can get at a health food/natural store) applied to the stitches

-apply witch hazel to a panty liner, apply that

Sitz bath herbs help a lot.  Witch hazel on a pad helps.  It's too late for ice most likely.
  • I agree with PP. For me, Sitz bath (was sent home with one) helped with healing. Witch hazel--I used tucks pads placed on top of sanitary pads, helped, though I thin more with the itching as stitches healed. And don't be afraid to have it checked out agai

  • My second degree tears took about 4 weeks before I could sit in church. Before that, it gave me a lot of discomfort. I tried to stay horizontal as much as I could, taking pressure off that area. My mom came for two weeks and I used a lot of that time t

  • A tip from my midwife was to pour a small amount of castor oil on a pad, do this every time you change the pad.  Castor oil is supposed to aid in healing.  Also the dermoplast spray and tucks pads can help ease some discomfort.

  • I had a second degree tear in the same area.  Mine took forever to heal completely (9 weeks).  By 2-3 weeks I could sit comfortably but I still felt sore/tender down there until it completely healed.  I mainly used ice packs made out of new
  • If it hurts to sit you should get a donut pillow to sit on. It helps a lot. Also maybe use some ice pads, dermoplast, sitz bath, and take tylenol or other OTC pain relievers to help with the discomfort.
