Babies: 3 - 6 Months

water?

Just curious when you started giving baby water.  I haven't yet but my MIL mentioned I should've by now.  I'm not sure what the benefits would be at this point?

  • the earliest you can give water is 4 months, but they dont necessarily need it if you are ffing or bfing. we will probably introduce water in june when it gets really hot here just as a cool down between bottles, ds will be 5 months. some give it as a was

    Since the recommendation isn't to start solids until 6 months you shouldn't need an

  • formula and milk have water in them.  that's just old fashioned thinking.I never gave DS water before he was off bottles.

  • If you're BFing you really don't need it, though some use it to help LO learn to use a sippy cup once they're on solids. Breastmilk changes to meet baby's needs.

  • We started offering a little at 6m when he started solids, especially because he was eating toast, cheese, etc. I wouldn't want to eat those things without a drink.

    We don't offer when it's not solids time since he is nursing plenty.

  • You can start offering a little bit (like a sip) around 6 months, but shouldn't say fill up a sippy cup and let them have at it until a year. The info I have read states it can make them feel full when they really aren't so they don't eat like they should

  • I don't plan to offer water anytime soon, they don't need it as long as they are BFing or FFing... lots of water there!

    I did visit my grandma when DS was 6 weeks old and DS was fussing, but not interested in BFing so my mom and grandma both sug

  • My MIL tried to tell me the same thing.  No way, lady.  This can mess with your child's electrolyte balance and cause issues.  If your baby is getting formula or breastmilk, don't worry about it.  Once your child is eating mostly solid
