Rough evening - vent

LO is 4 weeks tomorrow.  All day today he resisted naps and clocked a total of only two hours of sleep.  Needless to say he was super crabby all evening bc he was overtired, so we thought there would be no harm in putting him to bed a little early, so we started the process at 7pm.  Here it is 9pm and DH and I are still taking turns rocking him and trying to put him back to sleep bc every time we put him down he wakes up after about 10 minutes.  Lately it seems as though his is an almost daily occurrence and I get so anxious thinking about whether or not he will nap during the day, and how long it will take me to successfully get him to sleep.

I am just so frustrated and don't know why it is this hard.  We have tried everything.  Swaddling, white noise, rocking, dark room, etc.  I feel like we are the lucky ones that have a high needs, difficult baby.  And, I feel like I am somehow doing something wrong or failing as a mother bc I can't successfully get him to sleep.

Ugh. I think I just needed to vent.  Definitely on the verge of tears today.  I feel guilty saying this, but I wish I could fast forward time a little bit.  I really don't think I am cut out for the newborn stage.

  • Are you trying different areas to put her down: bouncer, swing, your chest, etc.

  • You just described my day yesterday! like verbatim. LO finally fell sleep at 10:30 and was up an hour later..

It's 6 pm here and I'm dreading tonight already..she is already fussy and crying..

  • Girl, I am right there with you! My LO is 4 weeks tomorrow too, and takes like 20 minute naps at a time and always wants to be held. Last night we were up til after 11 PM, and I attempted to put her down at 8 PM. Weird enough though, today she has slep

  • During the day, yes, I try to put him down in different places.  We usually have the best luck on our Boppy Newborn Lounger thing during the day.  At night, he sleeps in the RnP in his room.
  • I am so glad I'm not the only one. Thank you!!! When I rock him, I do it for at least 15-20 minutes, sometimes longer.  He'll start to drift off to sleep, and so I'll keep rocking for a while after that.  Just when I'm ready to put him down,

  • We had this problem with our first around that stage... Developmentally they go through a fussy, cring age, ESP in the evenings when you are already exhausted! Lots of patiences and tlc for baby and you!
  • I am right there with you. My lo only will sleep on our chests. My dh and i take 3 hour shifts at night staying up however he returns to work on mon. Once we put him down when in a good sleep he will flail and wake himself up. We have tried the swing, rnp

  • I think 4 weeks is too young to expect any sort of "schedule" of sleep.  JMO but I think you are just setting yourself up to be frustrated by it all.  My LO dictates his schedule and needs and I just go with it.  This is my 4th baby and thi
  • I am so sorry but you aren't alone.  Last night was a bad night, my tired caught up to me and instead of his 3.5 hour feedings they went to 2.5, my husband was no help.  I woke up and just cried through his first feeding because I was so tire

  • Last night was so difficult for us..she had been cluster feeding since 5 pm. We took her to her room at 8 and did everything (dark room, swaddle, sucking, shooshing, rocking, walking, white noise..gripe water...) but she wouldn't go down..she finally f

  • I wonder how I am going to do this every single day... I'm waiting for the time that it gets easier... I'm four weeks in and not there yet.
