Any Thumb Suckers Out There??

LO has sucked his thumb since he was about 2 months old- and I am totally okay with that. Saturday I noticed that his thumb was really red and looked dry- almost like it was peeling, and possibly a bit swollen. It was first thing in the morning so I thought maybe he had just sucked on it more over night than usual. However here we are Tuesday and it is a little better- but deffinatly not fine. DH thinks I should call the doctor (he said he thinks it's infected) but it's not cut- it just looks raw. I thought about putting some Neosporin on it and wrapping it- but that would problably really throw off the sleep. Has this happened to anyone else- or anybody have any ideas?? TIA!

DS is a thumb sucker, at bedtime. His thumb gets raw from time to time. When I kjnow he won't be sucking it for a little while, like when he just wakes up, I put some baby lotion on it. It definitely helps.

DD is a thumb sucker. One time this winter she did actually split her thumb. When she was awake, I tried to keep it dry and out of her mouth as much as possible. If possible, use lotion or neosporin and maybe wrap during the day but for

During the colder winter months, this would happen to my DD. I used lanolin on her thumb and that helped out a lot and I knew it was safe for her to suck on the lanolin bc it's used for nipples during breastfeeding.

Lanolin!!! DS's thumbs were horribly raw this time last year, and nothing helped. Then I remembered lanolin. They healed up right away. I still pit it on 3x/day for prevention.
