Am I crazy or is this pt a *****

So I was so excited to show our EI pt (who comes monthly. this is her second visit) all the excitin  things A is doing (rolling on his own, standing with help and pulling himself up with a little help). About the standing she said, thats nice, but we have a lot of work to do on the floor before we can think about standing.  And proceeded to spend almost the entire time rolling, which honestly he is already doing pretty well. I mean his private pt who has been seeing him 4 months now works on everything... even from day 1 with her we worked on him weight bearing on his legs. He is SO excited every time he stands he just squeals an  giggles like crazy. But according to this ***** who has spent all of 2 hrs with him, he should only be doing floor excercises. Should I bring this up with our service coordinator or should I just chalk this monthly pt up to a waste of our time?

  • When we started therapies DD's OT said not to worry about potty training. She wasn't ready and wouldn't be for months, maybe years. I know my child. I started working on it during spring break and guess what? She is potty trained! My experience is tota

  • There is a value in your child developing skills in a certain order. Each new skill builds on the next one and helps the muscle groups to develop in the correct order to be ready for the next skill.

  • There are 2 (well, more, but at least 2 :)) schools of thought in terms of gross motor skills. One, the more traditional it seems to me, works on things in a more age appropriate way - weight bearing, walking/cruising, crawling, etc. Another goes with

  • Thank you all  for your responses. I have never really talked with the private pt about her approaches. I just see what she is doing and see him improving. He has been sitting well since before he started therapy. I was always of the mindset that eve

It would make sense to have a dialog with the PT and allow her to explain her approach

  • I get where you're coming from!

It's hard when we just want to show off our kids' skills and a PT says we're doing something wrong.

It is important to learn the "basics" first though. But I'm sorry she made you feel bad about it!

  • I understand your guys point about us paying the other pt, but 4 months ago on our first visit she worked on weight bearing on legs. Standing/walking was not  on my mind even for O, let alone A. So her choosing to work on those skills has absolutely

  • I would assume the EI PT is working towards the goals that were mutually agreed upon for the IFSP.  Since there are goals to be met, the EI PT will need to work on those.  How frequently does the private PT work with our LO?  Personally,

  • It was the private pt that told us they cant duplicate services but the Ei people agreed too. I always thought that was bs too.  He sees the private pt weekly now but was going twice weekly until we were in danger of using our insurance visits up.
