Night time bottle - survey and request for suggestions

What age was your child when you stopped giving the night-time bottle?  Our daughter will be two at the end of May and the night-time bottle (8-10 ounces of whole fat milk) is the only one she gets.  We recently moved the timing of the bottle to before teeth brushing and offer her a bottle of water for immediately prior to getting into bed.  I tried removing the bottle of water from the routine and she got quite upset so we're keeping it for now.

I hadn't given much thought to keeping the milk bottle as part of the routine for another couple months but lately I'm seeing a lot of comments on other message boards where parents pulled the bottle from the routine anywhere from 12-15 months and substituting a sippy cup.  Is this really the norm?

Our daughter drinks lots of water from a straw cup during the day so I think stays well hydrated.  She won't drink milk from a straw cup (actually makes a gross face and practically gags when we try) so my concern has been that she will lose the fat-calories if we discontinue the milk bottle.

Any guidance on when you discontinued the night time bottle and how would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • I stopped bottles with my first two right around 12 months.  Quit cold turkey, and got rid of them.

If you are really worried about the calories from the milk, could you try a non-straw sippy?

    Honestly, at two - I wouldn't
