Night terrors

Recently DS has been waking up crying about 3 hours after we've put him to bed. He would cry for a little while but then fall back asleep most of the time and on occasion we'd have to go in an rub his back to soothe him back to sleep.

Tonight, he started hysterically crying 2.5 hours after he fell asleep. Like, the kind of cries where they wail until no sound comes out. I went into his room and he was jerking his body and his fingers looked like they were frozen stiff as if he were grasping a ball and he was crying. I tried soothing him but he kept jerking his body an it was super scary. It almost looked like he was having a seizure! He wouldn't stop crying and So i picked him up and rocked him and shushed him until he relaxed and stopped. He never woke ip throughout the whole thing and slept peacefully after I laid him back down.

This is the first real "night terror" that he has had. Super scary to witness your own child having one. I actually cried while I was holding him because it's hard to see and know that you can't really do anything about it. I know they don't remember having them, but it makes me sad. I wish there was a way to prevent them.

  • I hate those!  My DD used to have them around 2-3 years old and they went in phases.  She would have them a couple nights in a row and then not have one for awhile and then it would happen again.  I hope it doesn't happen again or not fo

  • I'm sorry. Those are awful. Talk to your pedi at your next appointment. My friends son had night terrors several times a week. She was given a few things to try. I don't remember all of them, but I know having a night time routine was a big one. Good luck
