Cloth Diapering

What cycle do you use in your HE washer?

Our dryer bit the dust, and we decided to replace both our washer and dryer because they were super basic and ancient. We considered getting a regular style washer, but none of the ones available had as much capacity as we wanted, so we ended up with a top loading HE.

Is it safe to use the sanitize cycle on my diapers or will it damage them? My other thought is to use heavy duty. Sanitize uses extra hot water and takes 2 hours. Heavy duty uses hot and takes 65 minutes. WDYT?

Any other tips on using an HE TL?

Re: What cycle do you use in your HE washer?

  • I've read here that you should not use the sanitize cycle. I have an HE front loader. I do a quick wash with no spin on warm bc I don't have a pre rinse option. I follow that with a regular cycle with hot water and 2 cold rinses.

  • I have a FL HE but I do a quick wash on warm/warm with no detergent.

I then do a Long wash on Hot/cold with detergent but about 5 min. in I add 2 buckets of hot water, otherwise the diapers don't get enough water because of the stupid sensor.

  • I have a HE top loader and my routine is quick wash warm, no spin, no detergent. Then add 2 tbsp regular tide powder on heavy duty, hot wash, add 2nd rinse. The first cycle is 27 min and the 2nd is 65. This has been perfect for us.

  • I've always done the two hour sanitize heavy soil load and the diapers and liners are in good condition after a year. I use flip brand. And Charlie's soap

I have also read not to use the sanitize cycle because the extra hot water may over time damage your diapers.  I called the manufacturer to see which cycle uses the most water, for my washer it is the heavy/bulky cycle.  So I run a quick wash

  • I read on the FBz website the the hottest water possible was necessary for yeast and so I've been using it for two weeks now.  No negative change in my diapers and while I'm sure it's not great long term, I will probably continue using it once every

  • Those of you that add a towel, do you add a dry one or do you wet it to make it heavier?
