Afraid to poo

Does anyone's LO do this? Owen will hold in his poo for as long as possible. for the last two days he will be running around and suddenly stop, clench his legs and stand as stiff as a board until the urge passes. this goes on until he finally has a bowel movement...its starting to really concern me. I'm thinking I should give him something to soften his stools, to make it easier to go...anyone else ??
