Working Moms

Come in if you have or have had a nanny...

So I am looking for a new nanny...again. Sigh.  First one we found out was smoking on the job.  Second one is AMAZING, BUT is moving due to husband's job.

The question I have is what experiences have you had with older versus younger nannies? Is there an age minimum or maximum you looked at when looking for a nanny?  My first lady (the one who lied about being a smoker) was actually in her 50's with a ton of experience, but clearly that didn't mean much.  My most recent nanny was younger (32), but still not "young."  Alot of the applications I am getting are from young women...a lot from ages 19-22.  When selecting a nanny how much did you consider age/experience?

  • The last family that I worked for wanted a younger nanny (early to mid twenties). They felt that a younger person may have more energy to chase a preschooler around. I personally think that it all depends on the person.

  • We had 2 nannies with DD.  The first one only lasted 2 months.  She was in her 30's, so not old, but she had a lot of experience.  We had some issues with her thinking she knew better than us how to raise our kid - this was our first chi

  • Thanks for the advice!  I, too, was shying away a little from younger women but your input has me re-thinking this.
