WDYT: Age Limit on Inviting Whole Class

I was reading a post on the preschool board about whole class vs. just girls for a preschool birthday party.

My son (2nd grade) was invited to a whole class party last weekend (he couldn't go because of family Easter stuff, and he didn't really want to go because he's not really friends with the kid anyway.)  I was thinking "Geez -- it's been a while since he's been invited to a whole class party!"

So, in your area, what seems to be the age when birthday parties change from whole class to same gender or just a few friends?

  • My oldest will start K in the fall, but I don't get the "whole class" thing.  I understand not wanting your kid to feel left out, but that's life IMO, and why would I want to invite a kid in my child's class that my kid either doesn't get along with,

  • DS is in his second year of preschool and we've only had one "all class" party. They don't seem to be popular in our school.

  • DS has been invites to two this year in Kindergarten. I do not get it mostly from the expense aspect. But I guess if the child does not have friends outside of school and wants a party then it is the logical choice. And out school would not give out add

  • We have done a few whole class parties in daycare & school.  We also invited our friends.

DD, 2nd grade, has been invited to 2 parties this year and they were whole class.

DS1 has also been invited to 1-2.

  • In my kids' schools, it seems like "whole class" seemed to drop off during kindergarten.  DS was invited to a few whole class parties in K, but none in 1st.  I was surprised that he got a whole class invite in 2nd grade.  I actually find

  • DS is in 2nd grade and has been at the same school since pre-3.  I would say through K, most of the parties were whole-class invites.  We never really did that because he has a summer birthday so inviting the kids he wasn't really friends wit

  • My older DD is in Kindy this year and has been invited to a few all class parties.  Personally I don't think there is ever a need for an all class party unless you have a really small class.  It tends to be so overwhelming.  Overall between

  • DS had many in K, has only had 1 in 1st grade. I don't think the age matters either way, but I do think it's crappy to hand out invites in class if the whole class isn't invited. Take it to email or the phone.

  • DS is in kindergarten this year and has been invited to 2 whole class parties. His party is in 3 weeks and we are only inviting 4 kids from his class. I don't want to invite the whole class as it is so expensive. There are also 2 kids in his class he does

  • Preschool - whole class

    Kinder -gender only

first - gender only, all friends

second on - few good friends

This is pretty much the way it seems to be around here. However, it isn't a very hard and fast rule. To each their own. </
