ds with significant speech delay

I was wondering if anyone else here has a child with a speech delay at 25 mos?
Our little guy was born via csection under a general. He did not breath on his own for the first ten min. but was never without oxygen. Then at 5 weeks I noticed that he was tongue tied and we had it clipped. At 7 weeks he was admitted to the hospital because he was aspirating on his breastmilk. I had to stop nursing him and started him on a thickened liquids diet until he was oneish. During that first year he also had ear infections almost monthly. We decicided to get tubes and the doc also removed tonsiles and adnoids. The audiologist said he had significant hearing loss before tubes went in and after he was testing low normal. But the speech never came . Then at about 18 mos we had an EI evalutate him and he clearly had speech delays but is hitting all other milestones. Started group play therapy in Nov. and we haven't had any success yet. I am so frustated... he is so frustrated I just want he to talk. He says ba for a drink and dada for dad. The other day he did say bye da when my husband was leaving but it only happened once. If he really gets mad at me for not givong him enough attention he will yell ma but it is far a few between. So I guess my question ia do you think any of his past medical history is causing the speech delay or do you think it is possible that he just doesn' t want to speak yet
We get another evaluatipn on Monday with a speech pathologist at the local hospital.

He is also our third child and our only boy. He is very social, makes eye contact, plays pretent, and is a real cuddlerat least with momma, he points to show me whats or drags me to it.

  • You need to adjust your speech expectations to account for the months at your ds did not have full access to spoken language. For example, if he got tubes at 12 months then right now he is at a 13 month old's level for speech. Once they get tubes, some

  • My DS1 was born under a c-section although I was awake--however, the reason for the c/s was because he was in distress--long story but basically the cord was wrapped around the neck and we don't know for how long.  I fear that he has neurological
