After a week of research I just want to let you ladies know what I've discovered and settled on for a life jacket. We are very close to many lakes and rivers and my parents love on a lake. The fact that DS may live in for the summer made me want to find one that he wouldn't fight but that was of good quality and Coast Guard approved.
Ops cove: parents think they're cute, children enjoy wearing them, they are extremely comfortable, lightweight, and on some styles the buoyancy can be changed for swim training. They will NOT keep a child's head above water if the child is incapacitated to or does not know how to remain upright.
Mustang: Somewhat cumbersome, small neckline, excellent quick drying material, they have the collar with handle. They will keep a child upright with head above water.
Overtons Infant Neoprene: I really liked this one. Comfortable for child, true to size, quick drying material, will keep child upright with head above water. Big con is that the collar with handle does not lay down. It always stands up. I feel liked DS would get upset with not knowing what was back there or that it would somehow be inconvenient.
Ultimately I purchased O'Brien Infant Neo vest from Wholesale Marine. It is out of stock on Boaters World, Overtons and Amazon. I will update when it arrives.
