96 oz

I am on strict orders to drink a minimum of 96 oz of water per day. I'm normally at about 55 to 60 oz. Yikes!

The reason being I have been having a lot of contractions. Has anybody experienced this? I am 18 weeks on Friday. Some contractions have been BH, but some have felt like the real deal.

Also I was wondering if anybody knows if caffeine can cause this on a regular basis. I didn't think about that until after I hung up the phone with my OB's office.

Re: 96 oz

  • Caffeine can cause you to be dehydrated. I'd cut all of that out of your liquids as well.

  • I was wondering how you were doing after your contractions post yesterday. I've also been having contractions with some regularity and my MW pretty much suggested the same thing. She said at least 2 liters but to aim for 3... yikes, to me that is a lot

  • caffeine can make you dehydrated so stop drinking that.

I keep my water in front of me all the time and constantly sip. I also have fruit in my water to help flavor it.

  • I keep track of my water intake using a smart phone app, and it really helps keep me on track. I have an Android phone and the app I use is called Water Your Body.

I highly recommend using one of these!

  • I'm not having contractions, but I am drinking 128 oz (a gallon) of water a day.  It is a lot, but I found that having a big water bottle helps--I found one that is 64 oz so I drink one in the morning and the 2nd in the afternoon.

Thanks for the app recommendation! Sometimes I will actually put "Water" in my daily planner with three boxes to check off for each 20 oz bottle I drink, but I think this will be better.
