etiquette on using cousin's name?

We are really struggling with naming DD#2 and I feel like we are running out of time.  We have always liked the name Caroline, and I think it goes really well with DD1's name.  However, DH's cousin named her little girl Caroline (she is 4 yrs old).  They would have the same last name as well. 

Would you still use the name?

Do we need to ask permission first?

They live about 1.5 hrs from us.  We only see them around Christmas.  We aren't on the best of terms with his side of the family, but I do really like this cousin and his wife (they are my favorite of them all, although I don't feel like I would be comfortable calling and chatting with her, if that makes sense).

I think it's fine to use the name Caroline. It's not some super unusual name. And even if it were unusual, you don't see them that often. That being said, there are definitely people out there who get offended by things like this, so if you use it be prep

Well, ultimately you can do whatever you want, as I'm sure you know.

However, this is a situation where i'd be concerned too.  The thing is- you need to really think long and hard about how much you want to use the name AND whether to 'ask'

Normally I would say go for it, but the fact that they will have the same first and last names changes my opinion.  I am not sure why that seems like a big deal to me but it does.

Caroline is also our girl name choice. Love it! Have you thought about going with the alternate, more European, Carolina? Caro Leena. We've considered it, but for simplicity I think we'll stick with Caroline. In your situation, I would probably change it

Thanks for the feedback (and other name suggestions). 

Between our last name, my nieces' names, and my SD's name, and any names that are too similar to the forementioned, a lot of great names are crossed off our list unfortunately.

I wouldn't want to name my child what her cousin's named for that very reason, no matter how much I loved the name. But that's just me of course.

Great name. No do not use it. It is way too bizarre to use the same name as a family member?... Sorry I'm not trying to be mean but my blood would be boiling if my cousin names her daughter the same name.
