Book rec

I recently read a book that may be of interest to some of you- "Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity" by Andrew Solomon. Basically, the author interviewed families where the child differed from the parents in some important way; for example, parents of children who are deaf, have Down syndrome, have multiple severe disabilities, are criminals (when the parents are not), etc. I was particularly interested because there is a chapter on autism, though I felt like the focus was on parents of children with quite severe symptoms, so I didn't completely relate. Still, it was interesting to read about parents coming to terms (or, in some cases, not coming to terms) with loving children who are different in some important ways from themselves, as well as with some of the childrens' search for their identity. The book is long and dense, so perhaps not for the casual reader, but I definitely thought it well worth it. Hope it is of interest to some of you!
