baby fingernails?

HELP!!!  What do you do to keep your baby's claws/fingernails under control?

I need specific techniques on when and how to file the little buggers-- she's quick like a cat and crazy loud, making all my attempts miserable for all and pretty useless-- resulting in all of us with serious scratch marks.

Please share your tips!

I usually do it while he is sleeping. Kid sleeps like a log, thankfully.

I also do it when he is eating. I just slide the clippers under his fingernail from the side and do each one with one cut.

I also clean his ears when he eats; I swear this baby has the waxiest ears ever.

thanks.  So I do NOT have a log sleeper, so that is out.  In terms of filing them while they are eating-- How do you still hold them and do the nails at the same time?  I can now BF her while holding her with just 1 arm, but dealing with th

I haven't worked up the courage to use clippers. I file them while she sleeps.

It works best for us while he eats also. We have done it once or twice while he was asleep, but that freaks me out. I don't want to wake him. It definitely takes two of us. That is one of my husbands tasks, I feed, he clips.

I clip them with baby clippers. I do it a couple times a week, so he's used to it and just lets me. Have you attempted clippers?

I use a nail clipped a couple times a week while he is laying on the changing table. I lean over him and make funny noises and faces to keep him distracted. It works well for us.

I file after he's eaten. He's usually talkative and hasn't protested yet.

I find it to be easiest with a baby clippers while she is sleeping. If she is in a good mood, I can do it while she is awake. I find clipping much easier than filing.

I use a pair of nail scissors like this. I find that I have much better control with the scissors than with clippers. I do it when she's sleeping or eating.

I have yet to clip Hallie's fingertip...knock on wood. I used to do it while feeding her by laying her on a pillow or boppy while nursing. If you FF or EP you'll have to have your DH help. Now I do it while she's awake. Sometimes if she's kicking/flailing

I hear you Fusionbride, we are in the same boat.  Because we've stopped swaddling, his nails need to be clipped every other day or else he scratches the hell out of his face at night.

He freaks out if we do it while he's eating or sleepin

I can't believe that more people don't just bite them off. You can feel whether or not you've gone too far and if they're feeding, just get the hand that's free.

I let him watch TV **gasp** and clip while he's distracted.  I've never tried to file.  Clipping his nails is way easier than our cats.
