Ceiling Fan necessary for a nursery?

We're in the process of converting a guest room into a nursery for our little dude who is coming in July. Right now the room has a ceiling light only. I was going to replace the light anyways with something more baby-ish but was wondering if a ceiling fan is necessary? We typically keep our house in the mid 70's in the summer with central AC as we live in the South. We have other portable and standing fans and air purifiers we can use, but was just wondering if the ceiling fan was the way to go? What do you ladies think?

Thanks!

  • The ones I've had were pretty noisy for my taste, especially at night so I probably wouldn't put the fan in unless your house gets extremely hot.
  • Loading the player...
  • We just installed one in the nursery (and other rooms).  While I don't think it is always needed it can be helpful.

We bought a good quality fan and it is virtually silent unless we set it to turbo speed then it has a slight noise...but we'd

  • We have one and I love it.  Fans in baby's room have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS, it provides some good white noise for sleeping at night, and helps air out the room after a stinky diaper. It's also nice to have for nights that are warm, bu

  • I would. The fewer cords and things to tip over, the better. Plus it will be nice in spring and fall to cool the room, instant white noise, and it is supposed to reduce SIDS.

. I've read ceiling fans are good for SIDS prevention, but I don't know if there's really any proof to that.&nbsp

  • Our dd loved the ceiling fan in her room. She really enjoyed watching it and it was a form of white noise.  I recommend.

  • I don't think it's "necessary". That said, there was originally no overhead fixture in DS's room so we added one (light only) before he was born. Since then, we have added a fan (though it's not hooked up yet). We've never had a problem with his room w
