No and Bye

So we just got back from our 9 month well check, and one of the questions the nurse asked was if DS understands the words "no" and "bye." Wow, I don't really know. I think he gets "no" b/c I can sometimes get him to not throw his cup off his tray by saying it very sternly. (Or maybe me not giving it back once he throws it is starting to take effect?) But I have no idea if he gets "bye" yet. I haven't used it much yet. Do your LO's understand these words? How do you know?

We actually try to only save no for big  when they are little  like darting in the street so that it has more meaning.  In fact, when ds was 18 months old he could say over 70 words and still hadn't said no yet.  And we don't really sa

We were not asked that. DD gets "bye", but doesn't really grasp the concept of "no" (or is stubborn :P)

I think DS gets no because he will stop what he's doing and turn to look at us. I don't know if he understand bye or not. He doesn't wave yet. But I make sure he says "bye" to each of his daycare teachers everyday when I pick up. Hopefully that helps

I think Parker understands no-no and eh-eh, because he'll stop doing what he shouldn't be doing....most of the time. He is stubborn too, though. 

As far as bye bye goes....he waves, but I'm not sure he really gets it.

I do the same thing... i usually use the word "stop" when he is doing a behavior i want him to stop doing... "no" is used for big things like trying to touch a plug outlet. i decided to try this because i thought it may hold off on him screaming the word

I think he is starting to understand "no". He gets upset sometimes when we say "no" but it may be because of the change in our voices rather than the actual word.

No clue about "bye" yet.
