Help! My 13month old is constipated!

My 13month old daughter has been suffering from constipation since I took her off formula and started to give her whole milk. She was on milk for about a week, and my pediatrician told me to switch to Lactaid. After a week on the lactaid, he had me change her to Soy milk and told me I have to take her to the gastro. doc. I have tried adding prunes, fruit (papaya) in the mornings, etc. I have even given her the Kayo syrup in hopes of making it easy for her to pass. She poops very hard and becomes hysterical when she has to push. I make her food for her, she eats a puree of spinach, chicken, sweet potatoe and butternut squash, every day for lunch. I do mix it up obviously... Oatmeal for breakfast, dinner is usually pasta, or chiken with a veggie.. She drinks atleast 12 oz of water a day, in addition to her 22-23 oz of soy milk a day. Snacks vary from cherrios, to yogurt, etc...

WHAT ELSE CAN I GIVE HER??? What is safe?

  • All P fruits pears, peaches, prunes, plums and cut down on anything carb like  (Cheerios and other things).  This is what we had to do for my DS.
  • All of the "P" fruits. You also might want to try and reduce the amount of milk she's drinking. From what I've gathered by multiple posts here, most pediatricians recommend 12-16oz of dairy daily, and this includes milk and yogurt/cheese. Your DD drinks a

  • We struggle with this as well, We went onto Almond milk and cut down on cheeses. Yogurt is supposed to help we never cut back with that. I give lots of canned pears each morning and I also give 1 "Plum" prune pouches a day.... sometimes depending how s

  • We add a small amount of milax to ds water once a week or so. He gets constipated easy and it really helped. Dr recommended.
  • Back off the milk.  Our pedi told us we could give Miralax.  I also used to do prune juice (2 oz, mixed with 2 oz of water) every day.
  • Is she getting enough vegies? Try steamed brocolli, or some other fiberous vegies.
