We have a book with a bunch of basic signs that are good. But the best way we've found is to use youtube. Just look up the sign and there are videos that show you the exact motion - easier to copy than looking at a book or flashcard.

We just do food related ones also. The girl that watches my son shows him a signing video and does them too. But it's all about being repetitive. Kane now signs "all done" and "more" and understands more, eat, milk, no, all done.
We started around 6 months with just milk, eat and all done. At 9 months she started signing back milk. We are introducing more words like drink, book, cat, more, mommy and daddy. It's been going slow but she is catching on.
