1 y/o and naps

How does your DCP handle 1 year olds? The new DCP I'm looking at has a separate 1 yo class and they only take 1 nap on mats. I am not sure how I feel about this.

It would make my life much easier if I could get my second down to 1 nap a day, but right now he is content taking 2 naps, usually 3.5 - 4 hours total. I understand 1 nap for 16-18 month range, but for some reason 12 months just seems early to me. I know other centers sometimes have infant/young toddlers and then an older toddler room, but I'm not sure how naps are generally handled.

Re: 1 y/o and naps

  • Our day care does one nap per day in the toddler room (12 months +).  Both of my kids adapted to that just fine.  I think they keep them busy enough in the morning that it is OK.  On weekends DS still naps twice most of the time, and DD did

My daycare transitions to the toddler room at age 1 and walking well.  They have 1 nap on mats from 12-3.  DS transitioned when he was around 1 yr 2 months old and did really well.  I was worried about him going from 2 naps to 1, but we

  • He went down to 1 nap around 12 months. I think DC just initiated the transition, because it felt natural, and I definitely didn't do anything, just that's what was on his daily sheet, and that's what he did on the weekends. At the time LO was still in th

  • Our in-home DCP transitioned kids to the one-nap schedule around their first birthday.  DD did just fine (actually, awesome - she was a shitty napper until we got to one naps, and then finally we got to where she would sleep for 2 hours at a stretch

  • Our DCP is an in home daycare, so she is a little more flexible. DCP allowed her to continue 2 naps until DD indicated she was ready to switch to one. That said, my DD switched to one nap at around 13.5-14 months on her own. She just wouldn't sleep dur

  • For the first couple of months in the 1 year old room, my daughter took 1 nap during the week, but then two naps on the weekend.  we decided to switch her to 1 nap on the weekend to make it easier on daycare.    It sucks, but this is what d

  • Once they are one they go to the toddler 1s room. One nap a day from noon until 3 at the latest.

B did fine with the transition and has been on one nap at that time ever since.

  • Our daycare does 1 long nap from 12-3 starting in the tots room (12ish months to 18ish months). In the tots room they still use cribs. In the toddler room (18ish months to 2 yrs) they move to cots. I was nervous about switching my daughter to the one nap

  • Once my oldest moved to the "First steps" room (it's the room they use to transition from nursey to the 1 year room) they went down to 1 nap a day, after lunch, on the mats. No issues with that, it's still that way in the pre-school room he just moved int

  • All of the DC centers around here start the 1 nap a day on mats at 1yr.  Honestly I was relieved when my son moved up to toddlers.  In the infant room there was too much excitement, he would nap like 30mins a day.  Then he was exhausted

  • I just have to say that I find it UNREAL that the DC can get my son at 1 to lay down and take a three hour nap, on a mat on the floor, in a room with other kids.  I want them to come do their magic at home.

  • DD went down to one nap right around 11 months.  they tried to keep all the 1ish yo babies on that schedule - nap 1-3, but they were flexible too - and some kids needed a little rest early in the morning or late in the afternoon - that was never an i

  • We sort of have the opposite of many.  At daycare, my 13-month-old son takes two naps almost every day.  On the weekends or when my mom watches him one day a week, he tends to only take one.  We would still give him two (actually I wish he'
