1st Trimester

Pinched Nerve or what?

So I've always heard that every pregnancy is different but this one is definatly a challenge.  I've noticed for the past week that I have a sharp burning type pain on my left side around my hip/lower back.  If I step the wrong way or sit down to fast it is enough to bring me to tears at times.  I have a very high pain tollerance so this is really getting unbearable.  I'm 12w1d today and very bloated.  I have soaked in warm water, used a heating pad on low for 30 min intervals and even taken some tylenol.  But nothing seems to help.  Any suggestions?  Or has any of yall experienced this before?

I am also already getting that tingly feeling in my legs when I lay down at night...it is driving me crazy as well.  I have them propped up at a slight angle with knees bent but it is still enough to make me toss and turn all night.  I had this with my previous pregnancy but not until I was around 7-8 months preggers.

 Thanks ladies.

Re: Pinched Nerve or what?

  • Sounds like sciatic nerve pain to me. Its common with pregnancy as everything is relaxing and stretching.

From one of my pregnancy books:

  • Welcome to sciatica! I've had sciatic issues before pregnancy and it is no fun. For me, the only thing that keeps it at bay is staying active and regular exercise. However, the last time I got a flare up the only thing that helped was a week of prednisone
  • Thanks ladies!  It is definately on my list of things I despise.  I have never felt anything like it in my life.  Hope we can all get past this bump of pain and enjoy the rest of our pregnancy!!

  • This happened to me in my 2nd tri with my first.  I did the heating pad, but it just got unbearable.  After reluctance, I called my OB and he gave me a safe med to take.  I took it once, passed out (what a great nap), and then I was able to

  • Oh the joys of sciatica. I hear you OP, it's a literal pain in the butt.
I never got relief my last go round, and it started nice and early this time too. GL! Hope it eases up you!
  • I have had this with all of my pregnancies... this one is probably the worst.  I believe it is sciatic nerve pain. :(   Not fun.   Mine usually goes away or at least gets better by 2nd trimester.  I hope it goes away for you too! &nbsp

  • I agree with the others, definitely sciatic nerve. Horrendously uncomfortable/painful. I have had ongoing trouble with this before pregnancy with one side or the other pinching every 4-6 months for about a week or two and then correcting itself. I find th
