Lexapro?

Has anyone taken this for depression or anxiety disorder? I was just prescribed this by my gyne for my excessive anxiety. I'm nervous about medicating. I have an appointment with a counselor in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if I should hold off on taking it until then?

  • It will take up to two weeks to start taking effect. It has to build up in your system. I would take it. It is often prescribed because it has a low rate of side effects. I have taken it two different times for several months and it made a difference for

  • I took it for about 6 months last year and weaned off it in January to TTC.  I will say that it did help with my anxiety.  As pp said, it allowed me to assess whether what I was freaking out about was really worth freaking out about.

  • Thanks, everyone! She put me on 10mg once a day for now so maybe I'll try it and hope that by the time I see the counselor, I'll have a feel for how it works.
  • My sister is on Lexapro and I am on Celexa- if it's workng right, it will just take the edge of of your worrying and help you focus and deal with things in a better way.
