Aren't the eggs raw in most ice cream not store bought? I would think a lot of us will want ice cream this summer so I'm wondering if its safe. I've never heard it wasn't safe, but was just thinking that it probably has raw eggs.
I worked at a DQ as a teenager, and i know that the MIX bags they use don't contain Raw eggs, so if you stick with DQ this summer, you should be okay! I am not sure with the toppings, the cookie Dough might, but i am sure it has to be a safe grade if they
I don't know about ice cream, but the cake batter I eat out of the bowl before baking definitely has raw eggs and it doesn't bother me :-P I eat lots of ice cream too...no worries!
From what I understand most "store bought" ice cream is perfectly safe. Unless it says on the label that it contains raw eggs I believe they have to be cooked!
We usually make homemade ice cream which does have raw eggs in it, so I won't
Most artisanal ice cream shops will pasteurize any ice cream with eggs in it. I'd be really shocked if they didn't, especially because it kind of tastes bad if you don't pasteurize. To be completely honest, I'm pretty sure you are safe because the like
There actually is raw eggs in a lot of ice cream. I didn't believe DH when he told me that, but it is so. I believe anything with raw eggs sold in a normal store is pasteurized, though. I will probably be making my own Ben & Jerry's
You can even buy pasteurized regular eggs at a lot of grocery stores. They're called Safer Eggs, or something like that. I always buy them, because I'm paranoid.

Re: Ice cream
If your ice cream contains eggs, the eggs are cooked during the ice cream making process, so they would not be raw. Ice cream is fine to eat.
My new bff Gayle Forman!
I was told not to make my own homemade ice cream, but anything from an ice cream shop or store bought is fine.
But then again, I ate a spoonful of brownie batter the other day....
Oh Christ.
