jealousy from older kid?

i'm due tomorrow and have a 16-month-old son. yesterday we were at my in-laws and my DH was helping move his mom, who is really ill and uses a walker. DS saw my husband helping her and FREAKED. he started crying super hard and basically tantrumed. he tried to get in between my DH and his mom. obv my husband continued helping his mom, i pulled my son out from behind him, and he stopped crying when DH came back from helping her and was immediately fine. it happened again a couple hours later when he helped move her again. it made us super nervous for what it will be like when the baby comes. i don't think he's going to take well to losing my attention, seeing me nursing, etc.

did your kids ever have reactions like this? how long did it take to subside? did you just let your LO grow out of it, seeing that he doesn't have a choice in the arrival of his little brother? any advice/stories appreciated!

  • A month before my dd was born we visited a friends infant. My ds cried whenever I held the baby. He did not have that reaction to dd and still doesn't get jealous. I wouldn't think too much of it.

  • I think it depends on the child. My son was great and didn't get jealous until my daughter was about 5 months old. He is learning that he has to wait his turn at times but they both get equal attention. Just be patient know matter what the response may be
