Weight Gain

Anyone else gaining more weight than they'd like/feel like they should?

I'm 10 weeks and have gained about 8 to 9 pounds. Everything I've read says you're only supposed to gain 5 in the first trimester: clearly, I've blown past that already!

I know exactly why I'm gaining like this: I haven't gone to the gym like I normally do not as often nor as intense of a work out; I've been drinking Ginger Ale to settle my stomach whereas I usually only drink water, so I don't normally intake calories from soda; and, I went through a phase where the only foods I could handle were carbs: potatoes, bread, and noodles. In fact, I went through a good 2 week stretch when I felt sick whenever I didn't have something carb heavy on my stomach.

I'm starting to feel better and think I can get my diet/exercise routine in better order as I head into the 2nd trimester, so I hope this will keep the weight gain under control and maybe even drop a pound or two. I talked to my doctor about it, and he said not to worry; the amount of weight gain I had was fine. Nonetheless, I'm still curious: has anyone else experienced this?

Hoping I'm not the only one feeling a little extra lovin' around the middle :

I feel the same way! It's hard for me because we've had several people at work lately who have been pregnant who are tiny and only gained an adorable little bump, only to lose all the weight after birth. I am swelling a lot and feel so huge!

  • I hate that mobile bumping erases hypens. It reads that you gained 89 instead of 8 to 9 and I almost had a heart attack lol. Because the first trimester is SO hard, I think you just kind of have to roll with it and do better when you can and not worry so

  • I'm in the same boat.  I'm carrying twins, so I expect to gain a little more, but not too much more than a singleton in the first trimester.   I've already gained about 7 pounds at week 11.  Its for the same reason as you - way more

  • The first time I stepped on a scale, a few weeks after finding out I was pregnant, I went up 12 lbs.   I freaked out.  While my eating habits changed a bit, it didn't justify how much I gained.  I decided to eat as healthy as the first

  • Honestly, I don't go by the recommended weight limits. I think your body will gain exactly how much it needs to in order to have a healthy pregnancy. Now of course that isn't an excuse to eat all candy and junk food because that will cause unnecessary wei

  • I gained five pounds within the first couple of weeks and then dropped two pounds. Not sure how that happened unless I slept those two pounds away. LOL!
  • I am at 10 weeks, and I have gained 8lbs. The doctor does not care. I feel like a cow. I just keep eating what I want, which is not all that bad. I have been drinking a root beer or a 7up every day, though. They really calm my belly down. I think the weig

  • I'm so glad that I'm not alone here! I think I might go buy some maternity dresses this week that will expand with me, but I felt a little ridiculous needing new clothes already.
  • Despite all of the puking...I have also gained 8 or 9 and I am 10wks. I didnot gain weight like this with DS. I am freakin out ! Ugh!!!

  • I've gained anywhere between 8-10 lbs. I'm not worried about it. For one thing, I've also been having bad constipation, so I have no doubt there's probably 3-4 lbs of just straight poo in there weighing me down. <img src="https://community.thebump.com/cs/e

  • At my 8 week appt at the end of Feb I had lost a pound since I went to my annual in early January.  I went to my second appt this past Friday and have to admit, I was a little horrified that I have gained 6 lbs since that last appointment.  6

  • I'm right there with you. I stepped on the scale at my inlaws' yesterday and was up 9 lbs. Same issues with nausea, lack of exercise, crappy diet.

I don't remember gaining this much with DS during the first tri, but I didn't feel as gross, eithe
